Occupational Health

Dr Lindi Mokwena is a qualified Medical Practitioner who has a wealth of experience dealing with mining employees.

Benefit Medical Examination (BME)

The Dr Lindi Foundation, in partnership with the Kriel Occupational Health Centre, will conduct a FREE medical screening for ex-miners with traceable work history in the mines, i.e. TEBA and Department of Labour. We will then submit to The Medical Bureau for Occupational Diseases (MBOD) in Johannesburg for certification of the occupational lung diseases (OLD). Dr Lindi has witnessed first-hand the need to create awareness about the life-long monitoring and surveillance required for compensable lung diseases for ex-miners.

This enables ex-miners to apply for compensation if criteria are met as set out by ODMWA of 1973, which states that anyone who has been exposed to risk while working on the mines or classified works has the right to have their lungs and heart examined.

It is important to note that the BME can be taken every two years and not every case that is examined by the Foundation qualifies for compensation.
